A resolution appointing Avis Miller and Joe Filapek reappointing John Savage, Archie Needam and Andrew Smith to the Aurora Public Library Board.
DISCUSSION:
The Aurora Public Library Board is a nine (9) member board tasked with the overall governance of the library. The board is also responsible for supporting the mission of the Aurora Public Library, which is "dedicated to supporting the lifelong learning and access to information, knowledge and ideas", whose "vision is to nurture an educated, enlightened and enriched diverse community".
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended the City Council approve the appointments and reappointments to the Aurora Public Library Board.

WHEREAS, the City of Aurora has a population of more than 25,000 persons and is, therefore, a home rule unit under subsection (a) of Section 6 of Article VII of the Illinois Constitution of 1970; and
WHEREAS, subject to said Section, a home rule unit may exercise any power and perform any function pertaining to its government and affairs for the protection of the public health, safety, morals, and welfare; and
WHEREAS, the Aurora Public Library Board has vacancies; and
WHEREAS, the Aurora Public Library Board has members with expired terms; and
WHEREAS, it is the Mayor's desire that said candidates be appointed and reappointed to the Aurora Public Library Board.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Aurora, Illinois, hereby approve the appointments of Avis Miller, Aurora, IL and Joe Filapek, Aurora, IL and reappointments of John Savage, Aurora, IL, Archie Needam, Aurora, IL and Andrew Smith, Aurora, IL to the Aurora Public Library Board.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the terms of Avis Miller, Joe Filapek, John Savage and Archie Needam expire on June 30, 2020 and the term of Andrew Miller shall expire June 30, 2019, however, in any event, the appointees shall serve until their respective replacements have been approved by the Council.
