SUBJECT:

An Ordinance Changing the Name of Heggs Road to Eola Road located south of Wolf’s Crossing Road in Will County, Aurora, Illinois  

 

PURPOSE:

The City of Aurora is requesting a street name change from Heggs Road to Eola Road.  

 

BACKGROUND:

The City approved the dedication of the new realignment of Eola Road to US Route 30 last year which is located south of Wolf's Crossing Road, west of Heggs Road.  However, the section of road between Wolf's Crossing Road and the newly dedicated Eola Road needs to have the name changed from Heggs Road to Eola Road.  The remaining portion of the Heggs Road will be vacated in the near future. 

 

DISCUSSION:

Staff has reviewed the Street Name Change petition and have determined that it meets the applicable codes and ordinances. 

 

IMPACT STATEMENT :

This street name change will impact a number of properties that will need to change their address.  

 

RECOMMENDATIONS:

Staff would recommend APPROVAL of the Ordinance Changing the Name of Heggs Road to Eola Road located south of Wolf’s Crossing Road in Will County, Aurora, Illinois

An Ordinance Changing the Name of Heggs Road to Eola Road located south of Wolf’s Crossing Road in Will County, Aurora, Illinois

WHEREAS, the City of Aurora has a population of more than 25,000 persons and is, therefore, a home rule unit under subsection (a) of Section 6 of Article VII of the Illinois Constitution of 1970; and

 

WHEREAS, subject to said Section, a home rule unit may exercise any power and perform any function pertaining to its government and affairs for the protection of the public health, safety, morals, and welfare; and

 

WHEREAS, the City of Aurora  desires, pursuant to Section 42-3 and 42-20 of Article I of Chapter 42 of the Aurora Code of Ordinance to change the name of a former portion of Heggs Road to Eola Road as hereinafter set forth;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council of the City of Aurora, Illinois, as follows:

 

Section One: That the City Council of the City of Aurora, Illinois finds as fact all of the preamble recitals of this Ordinance.

 

Section Two: That this Ordinance shall be in full force and effect, and shall be controlling, upon its passage and approval.

 

Section Three: That all Ordinances or part of Ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed insofar as any conflict exists. 

 

Section Four: That any section, phrase or paragraph of this Ordinance that is construed to be invalid, void or unconstitutional shall not affect the remaining sections, phrases or paragraphs of this Ordinance which shall remain in full force and effect.

 

Section Five: That the name of former Heggs Road be and is hereby changed to Eola Road, located within Sections 7 and 18 of  Wheatland Township, Will County, Illinois, all as shown on the plat attached hereto as Exhibit “A”, and made a part hereof.

 

Section Six: That the City Clerk of the City of Aurora, Illinois, is hereby directed to forward a copy of this Ordinance after its passage and signing to the Director of Public Works so that the street sign may be changed, the Aurora Police Department / Communication - 911, and the Fire Marshall so that the name change may be noted on the “emergency response maps” and to the Zoning Administrator and the Planning Director so that the name change may be noted on the Official Zoning Maps of the City of Aurora, and record this Ordinance at the Kane County Recorder’s office.
