A resolution to accept a proposal from M/M Peters Construction, Inc., 178 S. Western Ave., Aurora, IL 60506 for the 27-37 South LaSalle Street Sidewalk Vault Closure Project in the amount of $69,205.73.
PURPOSE:
To accept the proposal for the above referenced project.
BACKGROUND:
City crews have patched holes in the sidewalk at 27-37 South LaSalle Street but until recently have not been able to get access to the vault underneath the sidewalk to inspect the structural integrity. The new building owner has been very cooperative in allowing access. Upon inspection, the vault ceilings (sidewalks) were found to be deteriorated to a point of being structurally unsafe and the sidewalk barricaded. The City Engineering Department quickly prepared plans, specifications, and proposal for filling the vaults and replacing the sidewalks.
DISCUSSION:
Proposals for the 27-37 South LaSalle Street Sidewalk Vault Closure were received from two contractors (Exhibit A). The lowest responsible bidder was M/M Peters Construction, Inc. in the amount of $69,205.73. A budget transfer is in progress for funding this project #A007 account # 231-1830-465-3818. The vendor has no outstanding debts with the City.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
The sidewalk will be closed to pedestrian traffic during construction.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Please forward this resolution to the Finance Committee for their review and recommendation for approval.

WHEREAS, the City of Aurora has a population of more than 25,000 persons and is, therefore, a home rule unit under subsection (a) of Section 6 of Article VII of the Illinois Constitution of 1970; and
WHEREAS, subject to said Section, a home rule unit may exercise any power and perform any function pertaining to its government and affairs for the protection of the public health, safety, morals, and welfare; and
WHEREAS, two proposals for the 27-37 South LaSalle Street Sidewalk Vault Closure Project were received (Exhibit A); and
WHEREAS, M/M Peters Construction, Inc., 178 S. Western Ave., Aurora, IL 60506 was the low bidder in the amount of $69,205.73 (Exhibit A); and
WHEREAS, funding will be provided with budget transfer in Project #A007 account # 231-1830-465-3818; and)
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Aurora, Illinois, as follows: that the Director of Purchasing is authorized to execute a contract with M/M Peters Construction, Inc., 178 S. Western Ave., Aurora, IL 60506 for the unit prices shown within the bid as set forth in Exhibit 'A' for a total contract amount not to exceed $69,205.73.
