A resolution to award a Contract to Gerardi Sewer & Water Co. of 4520 N. Osage, Norridge, IL 60706 for the Lafayette St. Water Main Replacement Project in the amount of $228,224.50. The project is located in Ward 4.
PURPOSE:
The water main along Lafayette St. and Sherman Ave., south of Melrose and west of 4th St. has been experiencing poor water quality and water main breaks.
BACKGROUND:
Water Production has been receiving complaints of rusty water and low water pressure in this area. Water Production has flushed this section several times, which only temporarily improves water quality. This section of water main has not been replaced or rehabilitated and requires replacement for continued reliable service.
DISCUSSION:
The proposed improvements will increase water pressure by increasing the replacement line to 8-inch from the existing 6-inch line. The City of Aurora has budgeted for this project under the Water & Sewer Fund IC076 510-4058-511-7302. Gerardi Sewer & Water Co. was the lowest responsible bid.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
The proposed project will create temporary road closures to through traffic on Lafayette St. south of Melrose and on Sherman Ave. between Lafayette and 4th. City of Aurora staff should be available to address construction management.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
I request authorization for the Director of Purchasing to enter into an agreement with Gerardi Sewer & Water Co. of 4520 N. Osage in Norridge, IL 60706 for construction of the Lafayette St. Water Main Replacement project in the amount of two hundred twenty eight thousand two hundred twenty four dollars and fifty cents ($228,224.50).

WHEREAS, the City of Aurora has a population of more than 25,000 persons and is, therefore, a home rule unit under subsection (a) of Section 6 of Article VII of the Illinois Constitution of 1970; and
WHEREAS, subject to said Section, a home rule unit may exercise any power and perform any function pertaining to its government and affairs for the protection of the public health, safety, morals, and welfare; and
WHEREAS, Gerardi Water & Sewer Co. submitted the lowest responsible bid of seven (7) bidders;
WHEREAS, the Water & Sewer Fund, Project IC076 Account 510-4058-511-7302 has sufficient funds budgeted for the project; and the project meets the objectives of the City of Aurora's maintenance of water supply infrastructure.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Aurora, Illinois, as follows: Gerardi Sewer & Water Co. of 4520 N. Osage in Norridge, IL 60706 be awarded a contract for the construction of the Lafayette St. Water Main Replacement project in the amount of two hundred twenty eight thousand two hundred twenty four dollars and fifty cents ($228,224.50).
