SUBJECT:
A Resolution Naming the Main Courtroom at the Aurora Branch Court the "Judge Thomas E. Mueller Courtroom."
BACKGROUND:
The police and court building on East Indian Trail was constructed during Mayor Weisner's first term and completed in late 2009. In addition to a police station with adequate room and modern technologies, the structure includes a court facility - the Aurora Branch court - at the west end. This allows us to hold court functions locally, saving money in overtime and travel expenses. The City Council voted unanimously to name the Branch Court building after Judge Peter Grometer, this resolution is seeking to name the Main Courtroom after Judge Mueller.
Judge Mueller was first appointed to the bench in 1995 as an Associate Judge and was elected to the position of Circuit Court Judge. In his time on the bench, Judge Mueller worked extensively with juveniles, leading him to start the Kane County Juvenile Drug Court. He is also a frequent lecturer on Juvenile Justice and Child Protection issues.
DISCUSSION:
As reflected in the attached biographical data, Judge Mueller has an impressive record of community service, having worked with Family Counseling Services, Plum Landing and Aunt Martha’s Youth Services to name a few. Additionally, Judge Mueller served as a volunteer mentor to students at Washington Middle School and West Aurora High School.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
It is recommended this Resolution be approved.
