SUBJECT:

Resolution to approve renewal of a three year contract for the City of Aurora's internet bandwidth from Edmund G. Urban, Urbancom Communications Inc., 5320 W. 159th St, STE 503, Oak Forest, Illinois 60452

PURPOSE:

Requesting approving to renew a three year contract for the City of Aurora's internet bandwidth from Edmund G. Urban, Urbancom Communications Inc. for 1000 Mbps of internet bandwidth upon start of the new contract.  Urbancom Communication Inc. has agreed to provide continuous service at the current rate until the new contract is in place.

BACKGROUND:

The City has been using Urbancom Communications Inc. since 2007 as one of the providers of internet bandwidth for the City and Police Department, and later for OnLight Aurora.  The City has amended the original agreement several times.  The current agreement is due to expire on October 31, 2018.

DISCUSSION:

The price of the new agreement for 1000 Mbps/1000 Mbps shall be $1750. Per month, paid in quarterly installments $5250.00.  The contract term price is $63,000.00.  This agreement will extend our internet service with Urbancom Communications Inc. for three more years.  Also note that the $1750.00 per month charge is a reduction of the current contact’s $1900.00 per month charge, a savings of $5400.00 over the term of the contract.  Urbancom Communications Inc. uses three providers for internet connectivity to provide a fault tolerant connection.

The current account used is 101-1380419-44-09.

IMPACT STATEMENT:

Accepting this new agreement from Urbancom Communications Inc. for internet service will allow the city to continue to have multiple internet providers, and allow OnLight Aurora customers with access to additional bandwidth when necessary.

RECOMMENDATIONS:

Adopt a resolution accepting the proposal from Edmund G Urban of Urbancom Communications Inc. for a new 3-year term for the internet bandwidth the City receives from Urbancom Communications Inc. before the current agreement expires on October 31, 2018.
