A Resolution authorizing the City to accept a grant award of $2,500 from Petco Love.
PURPOSE:
To obtain City Council approval of a grant to be used by Aurora Animal Care and Control to increase lifesaving efforts.
BACKGROUND:
Aurora Animal Care and Control protects the health, safety, and welfare of people and pets through animal sheltering, pet placement, and high-quality animal control services.
Aurora Animal Care and Control has provided services to the public such as humane education on responsible pet ownership and animal safety as well as low-cost or free veterinary care.
In the Spring of 2024, Aurora Animal Care and Control received a grant award through Petco Love to support and further our lifesaving efforts.
DISCUSSION:
This Petco Love grant award of $2,500 may be used for any lifesaving purpose.
Aurora Animal Care and Control intends to use this grant award to advance our community outreach with the goal of keeping pets in their loving homes.
The grant will be recorded as revenue in account 101-4410-337.30-40.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
Providing these services to the public will increase the human-animal bond between pets and their owners, keeping them in their homes and saving lives.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
I request that the City Council approves a resolution authorizing the City to accept a grant award of $2,500 from Petco Love.

WHEREAS, the City of Aurora has a population of more than 25,000 persons and is, therefore, a home rule unit under subsection (a) of Section 6 of Article VII of the Illinois Constitution of 1970; and
WHEREAS, subject to said Section, a home rule unit may exercise any power and perform any function pertaining to its government and affairs for the protection of the public health, safety, morals, and welfare; and
WHEREAS, Aurora Animal Care and Control submitted for an Animal Welfare Organization grant through Petco Love; and
WHEREAS, Aurora Animal Care and Control was granted $2,500 in funding to further lifesaving efforts; and
WHEREAS, Aurora Animal Care and Control intends to use this grant award to advance our community outreach with the goal of keeping pets in their loving homes; and
WHEREAS, the grant will be recorded as revenue in account 101-4410-337.30-40.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Aurora, Illinois, as follows: that the City is authorized to accept a grant award of $2,500 from Petco Love.
