A resolution to amend the "2014 Citywide Patching - Water and Sewer Maintenance Project" contract with Builders Paving, LLC dba Hardin Paving Services, 4413 Roosevelt Road #108 Hillside, Il 60162.
PURPOSE:
To authorize the Mayor and City Clerk to amend an existing contract with Builders Paving, LLC dba Hardin Paving Services. This contract was approved by the Aurora City Council on March 25, 2014 under resolution R14-072 in an amount not to exceed $500,000..
BACKGROUND:
This past winter has impacted the Water and Sewer Maintenance budget in many areas. The number of roadway excavations due to water main breaks, water service leaks and frozen water services has necessitated a significant increase in street related repairs contemplated under this project.
Attachment A is the schedule of quantities/prices estimated to complete the street related repairs associated with the harsh 2013-2014 winter season.
A change order in the amount of $221,000 will cover the cost of these repairs.
DISCUSSION:
The additional contract cost will be paid for out of Account # 510-4063-511.38-38, Water and Sewer Fund. A budget amendment will be required to provide the necessary funds.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
This contract amendment will have no negative impact to the community.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
We respectfully request that this item be forwarded to the Finance Committee for their review and recommendation of approval.

WHEREAS, the City of Aurora has a population of more than 25,000 persons and is, therefore, a home rule unit under subsection (a) of Section 6 of Article VII of the Illinois Constitution of 1970; and
WHEREAS, subject to said Section, a home rule unit may exercise any power and perform any function pertaining to its government and affairs for the protection of the public health, safety, morals, and welfare; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Aurora authorized the Mayor and City Clerk to enter into an agreement with Builders Paving, LLC dba Hardin Paving Services, 4413 Roosevelt Road #108 Hillside, Il 60162 for the 2014 Citywide Patching - Water and Sewer Maintenance Project on March 25, 2014 under resolution R14-072; and
WHEREAS, the 2013-2014 winter season resulted in a significant number of water main breaks and service leaks; and
WHEREAS, a large number of unanticipated street repairs are required; and
WHEREAS, it is estimated that the cost of completing these repairs under the current contract prices will not exceed $221,000; and
WHEREAS, this contract amendment shall be paid for out of Account #510-4063-511.38-38 and shall require a budget amendment in order to provide adequate funds; and) )
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Aurora, Illinois, as follows: That the Mayor and City Clerk be and are hereby authorized to amend the 2014 Citywide Patching - Water and Sewer Maintenance Project contract with Builders Paving, LLC dba Hardin Paving Services, 4413 Roosevelt Road #108 Hillside, Il 60162 in a not-to-exceed amount of $221,000.
