A Resolution to Award a Contract to Gerardi Sewer and Water Company, Inc. of 4520 N. Osage Avenue, Norridge, IL. 60706 for the Tanglewood and Carriage Hill Drive Water Main Replacement Project. BGI Committee - March 10, 2014.
PURPOSE:
To award a contract on the above referenced project..
BACKGROUND:
The existing 6" cast iron main is deteriorated and has experienced numerous main breaks over the past few years. This has resulted in several water outages for the residents within this area..
DISCUSSION:
The replacement of this main will reduce or eliminate breaks in this area and the frequency of water outages experienced by the residents, therefore reducing the costs to the City for repairing main breaks.
Fourteen (14) bids were received and publically opened and read aloud on Wednesday, February 26, 2014. The low bid was submitted by Gerardi Sewer and Water Company, Inc. in the amount of $816,066.25. The 2014 budget contains funding for this project in project IC076 account number 510-4058-511.73-02 (Water and Sewer Fund).
IMPACT STATEMENT:
This project will reduce the amount of reactive maintenance and allow more time for preventative maintenance by City crews. Water service interruptions will be reduced or eliminated.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
We respectfully request this item be forwarded to the BGI Committee for their review and recommendation for approval.

WHEREAS, the City of Aurora has a population of more than 25,000 persons and is, therefore, a home rule unit under subsection (a) of Section 6 of Article VII of the Illinois Constitution of 1970; and
WHEREAS, subject to said Section, a home rule unit may exercise any power and perform any function pertaining to its government and affairs for the protection of the public health, safety, morals, and welfare; and
WHEREAS, fourteen (14) bids were received, publicly opened, and read aloud on February 26, 2014 for the Tanglewood and Carriage Hill Water Main Replacement Project; and
WHEREAS, Gerardi Sewer and Water Company, Inc. was the low bidder having bid $816,066.25 and the bid tabulation is attached hereto and incorporated herein as Exhibit "A"; and
WHEREAS, funding has been provided in project IC076 account number 510-4058-511.73-02; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Aurora, Illinois, as follows: The Mayor and City Clerk be and are hereby authorized to enter into an agreement with Gerardi Sewer and Water Company, Inc. of 4520 N. Osage Avenue, Norridge, IL. 60706 for the Tanglewood and Carriage Hill Drive Water Main Replacement Project as per the bid tabulation contained in Exhibit "A".
