A resolution appointing Brian Caputo, George Wells and Larry Orsborn to the Aurora Veterans Advisory Council.
DISCUSSION:
The Aurora Veterans Council (AVAC) was re-established in 2012. The fifteen (15) member council is made up of residents who are: members in good standing of a Veteran's organization headquartered or historically active within the community, Veterans honorably discharged and immediate family members of a Veteran, deceased or living. The AVAC is tasked with assisting in any Veteran-related special events and activities, serving as a liaison between Veterans, Veteran's organizations, the Mayor, the City Council and the community as well as aiding in the solicitation of special events, activities, programs and/or funding related to Veterans.
There are currently vacancies on the board.
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended the City Council approve the appointments of Brian Caputo, George Wells and Larry Orsborn to the Aurora Veterans Advisory Council.

WHEREAS, the City of Aurora has a population of more than 25,000 persons and is, therefore, a home rule unit under subsection (a) of Section 6 of Article VII of the Illinois Constitution of 1970; and
WHEREAS, subject to said Section, a home rule unit may exercise any power and perform any function pertaining to its government and affairs for the protection of the public health, safety, morals, and welfare; and
WHEREAS, vacancies currently exist on the Aurora Veterans Advisory Council; and
WHEREAS, it is the Mayor's desire that the recommended candidates be appointed and reappointed to said Council.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Aurora, Illinois, hereby approve the appointments of Brian Caputo, Aurora, IL, George Wells, Aurora IL and Larry Orsborn, Aurora, IL to the Aurora Veterans Advisory Council.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the terms of Brian Caputo, George Wells and Larry Orsborn shall expire October 23, 2019, however, in any event, they shall continue to serve until their respective replacements have been approved by the Council.
