SUBJECT:
Request to approve a purchase of a 2015 Ford F-550 with an Altec AT40-G Aerial apparatus for the Street Maintenance Division from Altec Industries in the amount of $96,450.00.
PURPOSE:
The purchase of this aerial bucket truck will assure that the Street Maintenance Division's Forestry unit has a reliable aerial bucket truck for the maintenance and/or removal of the City's parkway trees.
BACKGROUND:
The Street Maintenance Division's unit 48-428 which is a 2007 GMC 4500 series truck with an Altec forestry apparatus has been approved for replacement in 2015. This unit has 7,056 hours of operation that is equivalent to 232,848 miles (1 hour = 33 miles / DOT Standard).
DISCUSSION:
The Street Maintenance Division is currently renting a 2015 Ford F-550 with the Altec AT40-G aerial devise including a cab guard from Altec Industries for $2,400 a month. After a month of use by the Street Maintenance Division it has been determined that they would like to move forward with the purchase of this truck. The two months of rental charges will be fully credited towards the sales price of $101,250.00. After the rental credit of $4,800 is deducted, the purchase price will be $96,450.00.
The City of Aurora has purchased vehicles and equipment from the National Joint Power Alliance contracts ("NJPA"). Altec Industries is the approved vendor for the NJPA Contract 031014-ALT.
The Street Maintenance Division has funds reserved in account 215-4460-431-7510 to purchase this truck.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
The purchase of this truck will assure that the Street Divisions Forestry unit has the equipment necessary to efficiently perform forestry operations.
There is no impact on other departments and/or divisions.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
The approval to a purchase a 2015 Ford F-550 with an Altec Forestry Aerial truck for the Street Maintenance Division from National Joint Power Alliance contracts from Altec Industries in the amount of $96,450.00.

WHEREAS, the City of Aurora has a population of more than 25,000 persons and is, therefore, a home rule unit under subsection (a) of Section 6 of Article VII of the Illinois Constitution of 1970; and
WHEREAS, subject to said Section, a home rule unit may exercise any power and perform any function pertaining to its government and affairs for the protection of the public health, safety, morals, and welfare; and
