2025 Ward 2 Scholarship Program
BACKGROUND:
The Ward 2 Scholarship Program offers two application types:
1. Ward 2 Scholarship Application A: For Ward 2 Students only.
2. Ward 2 Scholarship Application B: For Students who reside in the City of Aurora.
Each applicant is only eligible to receive one award. Past scholarship recipients are not eligible to apply again.
DISCUSSION:
To apply for the Ward 2 Scholarship, applicants must submit the following items:
1. A completed scholarship application.
2. Official transcript from accredited two- or four-year college or university, or high school.
3. Proof of community service.
4. Proof of enrollment in a college or university for the 2025-2026 academic year
and copy of student ID.
5. Copy of government ID.
6. Photograph and personal statement.
7. Applicant completed IRS W9 form.
8. College completed IRS W9 form.
9. Reference Letter.
Applications will be accepted by mail or in person until 5:00 p.m. on the deadline specified by the Ward 2 Alderwoman. Scholarships will be awarded to the winners at the Annual Hispanic Pioneers Breakfast on a date determined by the Ward 2 Alderwoman.
All business donations for the scholarships will be deposited into the Ward 2 Scholarship account number 312-0000-227.01-10. Scholarships will be paid out of this same Ward 2 Scholarship account.

WHEREAS, the City of Aurora has a population of more than 25,000 persons and is, therefore, a home rule unit under subsection (a) of Section 6 of Article VII of the Illinois Constitution of 1970; and
WHEREAS, subject to said Section, a home rule unit may exercise any power and perform any function pertaining to its government and affairs for the protection of the public health, safety, morals, and welfare; and
WHEREAS, the City Council, in the exercise of said home rule authority has empowered its Rules, Administration and Procedures Committee to from time-to-time adopt rules and policies governing the operations of the Office of the Aldermen; and
WHEREAS, a resolution authorizing Alderwoman Juany Garza and the 2nd Ward scholarship Selection Committee to receive, review, and award request anonymously for scholarships; and
WHEREAS, scholarship donations will be funded by business sponsorships and shall be made out to the "City of Aurora" and deposited into the Ward 2 Scholarship account (312-0000-227.01-10) set fourth by the City of Aurora Finance Department; and
WHEREAS, the Ward 2 scholarship award funds shall be dispersed directly to the Scholarship recipients at the Annual Ward 2 Hispanic Pioneers Breakfast; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Rules, Administration, and Procedures Committee acting pursuant to its final action authority conferred by Sec. 2-123(f)(1)(e) of the Code of Ordinances hereby authorize the Ward 2 Scholarship Program.
