City of Aurora Ward Scholarship Template & Application.
BACKGROUND:
The Rules, Administration, and Procedures Committee requested a Ward Scholarship Template and Application be created to establish consistency and guidelines for all Wards who wish to offer a Scholarship Program.
DISCUSSION:
The recommendation of the Ward Scholarship Template is to require the following from each Applicant:
□ Official transcripts from high school and/or accredited two-or four-year college.
*It is recommended but not mandatory that college students also include their high school transcript.
□ Proof of past and/or present community service in Aurora, Illinois
□ Proof of residence in Ward __, Aurora, Illinois
□ Proof of enrollment in an accredited college or university for the academic year __.
□ Proof of US citizenship or legal residency (birth certificate, etc.)
□ Letter of Recommendation
□ Personal Statement- “Why I am deserving of the Aurora - Ward ___ Scholarship”
□ Photo of yourself and brief biography
□ Applicant completed IRS W-9 forms, see www.irs.gov
□ College/University IRS W-9 form

WHEREAS, the City of Aurora has a population of more than 25,000 persons and is, therefore, a home rule unit under subsection (a) of Section 6 of Article VII of the Illinois Constitution of 1970; and
WHEREAS, subject to said Section, a home rule unit may exercise any power and perform any function pertaining to its government and affairs for the protection of the public health, safety, morals, and welfare; and
WHEREAS, the City Council, in the exercise of said home rule authority has empowered its Rules, Administration and Procedures Committee to from time-to-time adopt rules and policies governing the operations of the Office of the Aldermen; and
WHEREAS, a resolution establishing a Scholarship Template and Application for all City of Aurora Wards to use as a guideline for their Scholarship Programs; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Rules, Administration, and Procedures Committee acting pursuant to its final action authority conferred by Sec. 2-123(f)(1)(e) of the Code of Ordinances hereby authorize the City of Aurora Ward Scholarship Template and Application to be used as a guideline for all Ward Scholarship Programs.
