SUBJECT:

Ward 1 Residential and Nonprofit Grant Program.

 

BACKGROUND:

Alderman Daniel Barreiro is looking to continue the 1st Ward Residential and Nonprofit Grant Program to assist with community enhancements and improvements.

 

DISCUSSION:

Applications will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis and funds will be distributed based on availability of annual budgeted funds at the discretion of the 1st Ward Alderman. With a minimum threshold of $1,000 and up to $15,000.

 

Applicants will be reimbursed from the Ward 1 grant account 311-1350-419.50-99, while funds are available, not to exceed $25,000 annually.

 

Approved tree requests not fulfilled in the City Spring or Fall planting can be considered for this grant. Said trees are limited to parkway trees and will follow the City of Aurora selection and planting.

 

Grant will not be considered for public improvements or enhancements if applicant is also utilizing an existing city program whereby applicants are receiving assistance or compensation from said program.

 

IMPACT STATEMENT:

Ward 1 Residents will benefit by improving their community and promoting the character, integrity, and safety of the neighborhood.

 

RECOMMENDATIONS:

Request approval of the Ward 1 Residential and Nonprofit Grant Program.

WHEREAS, the City of Aurora has a population of more than 25,000 persons and is, therefore, a home rule unit under subsection (a) of Section 6 of Article VII of the Illinois Constitution of 1970; and

 

WHEREAS, subject to said Section, a home rule unit may exercise any power and perform any function pertaining to its government and affairs for the protection of the public health, safety, morals, and welfare; and

 

WHEREAS, the City Council, in the exercise of said home rule authority has empowered its Rules, Administration and Procedures Committee to from time-to-time adopt rules and policies governing the operations of the Office of the Aldermen; and

 

WHEREAS, Alderman   Daniel   Barreiro   is looking to continue   the   Ward   1 Residential   and Nonprofit  Grant  Program  to  assist  with  community  enhancements  and  improvements.   A resolution   authorizing   1st   Ward   Alderman   to   receive,   review   and   approve   request   for grants  for  community  wide  enhancements  and  or  improvements  to  benefit  the  1st  Ward.  A set  of  guidelines  has  been  written  to  implement  the  grant  program  for  the  Ward   1 Residential  and  Nonprofit  Grant.  $25,000 per  calendar  year  has  been  allocated  for  this program. Funds for these projects will be paid out of the Ward 1 Grant account

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Rules, Administration, and Procedures Committee acting pursuant to its final action authority conferred by Sec. 2-123(f)(1)(e) of the Code of Ordinances Hereby  approve  the  Resolution  authorizing  the  Ward  1 Residential and Nonprofit Grant Program.
