SUBJECT:
Resolution Establishing the Maximum Number of City of Aurora Liquor Licenses by Class.

PURPOSE:
To increase the number of Class S-1 - Limited Menu Recreational Facility licenses. A new business, Round One Entertainment Inc. d/b/a Round 1 Bowling and Amusement, to be located at 2480 Fox Valley Center, Aurora, Illinois 60504.

BACKGROUND:
This request is presented in accordance with the 2011 amendment to the City's Liquor Ordinance, specifically Section 6-9(a), which charges the City Council with the authority to determine the number of licenses available in each classification.

DISCUSSION:
Round One Entertainment Inc. d/b/a Round 1 Bowling and Amusement, to be located at 2480 Fox Valley Center submitted a liquor license application seeking a Class S-1 license for the purpose of selling to the general public alcoholic liquor by the drink for consumption on the premises of a recreational facility, and not for resale in any form. A limited menu will be offered between the hours of 9:00 p.m. and closing Sunday through Thursday, and between the hours of 10:00 p.m. and closing on Friday and Saturday.

Round 1 Bowling and Amusement is a 50,000 square foot amusement based establishment that will feature bowling, arcade games, karaoke, billiards, darts, and ping pong, that would open at the Fox Valley Mall.

Attached is the application submitted for your consideration. If approved, this resolution would increase the number of allowable liquor licenses as indicated in the accompanying Exhibit A to allow for the issuance of the license by the Commissioner. City staff has been working with the business owner to ensure that all requirements for a liquor license, as set forth in Chapter 6 of the City's Code of Ordinances, are met.

IMPACT STATEMENT:
The proposed resolution presents an opportunity to further the City of Aurora's economic development.

RECOMMENDATIONS:
I am recommending that this resolution be referred to the Government Operations Committee for consideration at its meeting to be held on February 14, 2017.
