SUBJECT: title
Traffic Study Request for Barrington Dr W. NO PARKING Signs from the south driveway of the Wheatlands School to Cool Creek Drive continuing on the north side of Barrington Drive W. to Keim Drive - Ward 9, Alderman Bugg
body
PURPOSE:
To perform a traffic study to evaluate the appropriateness of restricng parking on Barrington Drive in the vicinity of Barrington Elementary School
BACKGROUND:
ACR 75357 was submitted by Alderman Bugg based on conversations with the Wheatland Elementary School for the possible modification of Parking in the area of Wheatlands school on Barrington Drive W. The request is for NO PARKING STOPPING STANDING MONDAY - FRIDAY 7:30AM - 4:00PM on both sides of Barrington Drive W. from the south driveway of Wheatlands to Cool Creek Drive with the signage continuing on the north side of to Keim Drive.
DISCUSSION:
Parking restrictions are currently in places limit parking on the north side of Barrington Drive W immediately in front of Wheatlands School. While staff does not object to increased parking restrictions in this area to promote traffic flow and enhance pedestrian safety, staff does have concerns with extending the restrictions to Keim Drive. A modified approval extending NO PARKING 7AM-4PM SCHOOL DAYS from the front of the school to Cool Creek should be considered. Restricting parking from Cool Creek Drive to Keim Drive will increase parking in the neighborhood east of the school forcing more pedestrian crossings of Barrington Drive and most likely creating an issue with the residents within the subdivision. Allowing vehicles to park on the northside of Barrington would push exiting movement away from the school rather than towards it.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
Operations would be required to install approximately 8 signs.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Staff recommends a modifield approval of installation of (No Parking Standing or Stopping), (On School Days), (7:00AM-4:00PM) from the south Wheatlands Elementary Driveway to 30-feet south of the Cool Creek Drive pedestrian Crossing
