A Resolution appointing Zachary Draves to the Aurora Human Relations Commission.
DISCUSSION:
The Human Relations Commission (HRC) was established to provide investigative, consultative, cooperative, mediative, educational and promotional and advisory services to the residents of the City of Aurora in furtherance of the legacy of Marie Wilkinson, a lifetime resident of the City of Aurora and pioneer in the realm of social and civil activism who dedicated her life to the fight against poverty, discrimination, hunger, homelessness and injustice in the City of Aurora.
The twelve member commission is currently in need of new members.
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended the City Council approve the appointment of Zachary Draves to the Aurora Human Relations Commission.

WHEREAS, the City of Aurora has a population of more than 25,000 persons and is, therefore, a home rule unit under subsection (a) of Section 6 of Article VII of the Illinois Constitution of 1970; and
WHEREAS, subject to said Section, a home rule unit may exercise any power and perform any function pertaining to its government and affairs for the protection of the public health, safety, morals, and welfare; and
WHEREAS, vacancies currently exist on the Human Relations Commission; and
WHEREAS, it is the Mayor's desire that said candidate be appointed.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Aurora, Illinois, hereby approve the appointment Zachary Draves, Aurora, IL to the Aurora Human Relations Commission.
NOW BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the term of Zachary Draves shall expire on August 1, 2021, however, in any event, she shall continue to serve until her respective replacement has been approved by the Council.
