Requesting approval to pay our 2016 FX and SUMS software maintenance agreement for the Public Safety and Municipal communication system provided by the Harris Corporation of Lynchburg, VA for a total of $50,000.00
PURPOSE:
The Harris Radio System is used on a daily basis by both Public Safety and Municipal workers from both Aurora and Naperville. This agreement covers the software and updates that run on all the Servers and PCs that make up the system. .
BACKGROUND:
Our Harris Radio System went live shortly before the City opened the new Aurora Police Department in the Fall of 2008. The system is used daily by both the Aurora Police and Fire Department as well as other Municipal City workers. The cost of this agreement had been included in the original system contract price in previous years.
DISCUSSION:
Funds for this purchased were planned and budgeted for in our Communication Division budget within 101-1231-419-38.03
IMPACT STATEMENT:
This communications system allows for quality communication for the City's field employees. Consistent updates are required to maintain overall system reliability, stability, and security.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
I request approval to pay the FX and SUMS agreement to the Harris Corporation Lynchburg, VA in the amount of $50,000.00"

WHEREAS, the City of Aurora has a population of more than 25,000 persons and is, therefore, a home rule unit under subsection (a) of Section 6 of Article VII of the Illinois Constitution of 1970; and
WHEREAS, subject to said Section, a home rule unit may exercise any power and perform any function pertaining to its government and affairs for the protection of the public health, safety, morals, and welfare; and
WHEREAS, The Harris Radio System provides critical 24/7 communication capabilities for both the Aurora Police Department and Aurora Fire Department.
WHEREAS, The Harris Radio System is also utilized by a variety of other Divisions of the City of Aurora
WHERAS, Funds for this purchase were planned and budgeted in 101-1231-419-38.03
WHEREAS, that pursuant to Aurora Code Section 2-335(a)(3) the desired product is provided by only one source (1) person and that failure to act promptly may likely result in a substantial cost thereof to be borne by the city)
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Aurora, Illinois, as follows: Authorizes payment of the 2016 FX and SUMS software maintenance agreement with the Harris Corporation Lynchburg, VA in the amount of $50,000.00
