Resolution Authorizing the Purchase and installation of a backup emergency generator, transfer switch and required wiring for AFD fire station 4 from Associated Electrical Contractors, LLC of Woodstock, IL in the amount of $ 123,670.00.
PURPOSE:
To purchase and install a backup emergency generator, transfer switch and required wiring at fire station 4.
BACKGROUND:
The Aurora Fire Department wishes to equip all of the fire stations in the City of Aurora with backup emergency generators to provide electricity during times of electrical outages from severe weather or other incidents.
DISCUSSION:
Four of the nine fire stations have backup emergency generators already installed, this project will continue the process of installing backup emergency generators at the remaining stations. Fire station number 4 at 800 Michels Ave is an East side fire station that houses Engine 4 and Medic 4.
A bid specification was developed and published, at a bid opening (17-38) on August 30, 2017, there were seven bids submitted. Kluber Inc and the Aurora Fire Department evaluated the bids and recommends that we accept the bid from Associated Electrical Contractors, LLC of Woodstock, IL.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
Having backup emergency generators at fire stations will allow continued operations in the event of commercial power failure.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
That the finance Committee accept the bid from Associated Electrical Contractors, LLC of Woodstock, IL and approve the purchase and installation of a backup emergency generator, transfer switch and required wiring for the Aurora Fire Department station 4 at a cost of $123,670.00.

WHEREAS, the City of Aurora has a population of more than 25,000 persons and is, therefore, a home rule unit under subsection (a) of Section 6 of Article VII of the Illinois Constitution of 1970; and
WHEREAS, subject to said Section, a home rule unit may exercise any power and perform any function pertaining to its government and affairs for the protection of the public health, safety, morals, and welfare; and
WHEREAS, the Aurora Fire Department desires to install an backup emergency generator, transfer switch and required wiring at fire station 4; and
WHEREAS, Bid tabulation # 17-38, dated August 30th, 2017, identified the lowest responsive bid for the purchase of an backup emergency generator, transfer switch and required wiring as Associated Electrical Contractors, LLC of Woodstock, IL.; and
WHEAREAS, Associated Electrical Contractors, LLC of Woodstock, IL has the ability to procure and install the generator, transfer switch and required wiring for the Aurora Fire Department.; and
WHEREAS, the 2017 City of Aurora Budget shall provide adequate funding for this item in account 255-3033-422.38-05 (SHAPE Fund).
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Aurora, Illinois, as follows: that the City Council of the City of Aurora, Illinois does hereby authorize the purchase and installation of a backup emergency generator, transfer switch and required wiring for the Aurora Fire Department, for the amount of $123,670.00, from Associated Electrical Contractors, LLC of Woodstock, IL and does hereby further authorize its Director of Purchasing to issue the necessary orders to implement purchase of same.
