A resolution appointing Ramona Wood and reappointing Tim Oelker to the Aurora Civil Service Commission.
DISCUSSION:
The Aurora Civil Service Commission is a five (5) member commission tasked with carrying out the purposes of Chapter 13.5 of the City of Aurora Code of Ordinances. Specifically, the commission is in charge of the general direction and supervision of the classified civil service system in the city, including examinations, appointments and removals.
The recent resignation of long-time Commissioner Judith Morrison created a vacancy, and Commissioner Tim Oelker's term has expired. Ms. Wood will complete the remainder of Judith Morrison's term.
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended the City Council approve the proposed appointment and reappointment to the Civil Service Commission.

WHEREAS, the City of Aurora has a population of more than 25,000 persons and is, therefore, a home rule unit under subsection (a) of Section 6 of Article VII of the Illinois Constitution of 1970; and
WHEREAS, subject to said Section, a home rule unit may exercise any power and perform any function pertaining to its government and affairs for the protection of the public health, safety, morals, and welfare; and
WHEREAS, the Aurora Civil Service Commission is in need of a new member and an existing Commissioner's term has expired; and
WHEREAS, it is the Mayor's desire that said candidates be appointed and reappointed to said commission.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Aurora, Illinois, hereby approve the appointment of Ramona Wood and reappointment of Tim Oelker Aurora's Civil Service Commission.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the term of Ramona Wood shall expire June 30, 2016, and the term of Tim Oelker shall expire June 30, 2017 however, in any event, they shall continue to serve until their respective replacements have been approved by the Council.
