A Resolution Approving the Community Sponsor Agreement for the 'GreenTown Aurora' Conference and Contribution of $10,000 to Seven Generations Ahead and A5 Group Inc. (GreenTown Aurora 2014 - KDWK-14.028-Misc - SP)   
 
PURPOSE:
The City of Aurora participated as a Community Sponsor in the 2008 GreenTown conference held in downtown Aurora.  The event was a great success and we are excited for the opportunity to host another GreenTown conference in our city.
 
BACKGROUND:
Attached is a resolution approving an agreement to contribute $10,000 to Seven Generations Ahead and a5 Group Inc. to be the community sponsor for the 2014 GreenTown Conference in Aurora, IL.  More information on Seven Generations Ahead and a5 Group Inc., the producers of the GreenTown Conference Series, can be found in the attachments.    
 
DISCUSSION:
Green Town Aurora is a one-day conference on October 9, 2014, with pre-conference reception on October 8, 2014, designed to help create eco-effective communities. Mayors and elected officials, city managers, public works directors, park district directors, planners, developers, engineers, architects, landscape architects, builders-and many others interested in sustainable development-gather to hear from inspiring speakers, learn from been-there case studies and discuss actionable procedures to make communities more eco-effective.  The conference is to be held in downtown Aurora with workshops focusing on the fox valley-local sustainability, development  and our integral natural resources with the most prominent being the Fox River.  As being the sole host of this conference, the City of Aurora receives multiple benefits such as extensive marketing on event promotional material and media releases, a mailing list of all conference attendees, opportunity to provide opening speakers and also 25 attendees at no charge.  For more information on the GreenTown Conference Series visit: <http://www.greentownconference.com>.   
 
IMPACT STATEMENT:
The Planning and Zoning Division would anticipate that this project will increase the City's overall tax base and viability.   
 
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Staff would recommend approval of the Resolution Approving the Community Sponsor Agreement for the 'GreenTown Aurora' Conference and Contribution of $10,000 to Seven Generations Ahead and A5 Group Inc.

WHEREAS, the City of Aurora has a population of more than 25,000 persons and is, therefore, a home rule unit under subsection (a) of Section 6 of Article VII of the Illinois Constitution of 1970; and
 
WHEREAS, subject to said Section, a home rule unit may exercise any power and perform any function pertaining to its government and affairs for the protection of the public health, safety, morals, and welfare; and
 
WHEREAS, The City of Aurora has recognized the need to focus on environmentally sustainable solutions at a local level to assist in the mitigation of existing environmental concerns;
 
WHEREAS, the City of Aurora has been given the honor to host the 2014 Green Town Aurora Conference designed to help create eco-effective communities and progress green initiatives; and
 
WHEREAS, A5 Group Inc. and Seven Generations Ahead are the community sponsors for the October 9, 2014 conference with pre-conference reception on October 8, 2014; and
 
WHEREAS, a transfer to the 2014 City Budget will be requested to provide $10,000.00 in account number 236-1830-465.53-01      Other SC - Special Programs / GreenTown ($10,000.00)
 
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Aurora, Illinois, as follows: that the City of Aurora be the host City for the 2014 Green Town Aurora conference focusing on creating eco-effective communities and entering into a Community Sponsor Agreement with contributions in the amount of $10,000 to A5 Group Inc. and Seven Generations attached hereto as Exhibit "A"; and

Green Town: Aurora

October 8th thru 9th, 2014
 
This agreement confirms the acceptance of the roles and responsibilities for Green Town: The Future of Community to be held on October 9, 2014 in Aurora, IL, with pre-conference reception on October 8, 2014.  The parties entering into this agreement include Seven Generations Ahead and a5, Inc., co-producers of Green Town, and the City of Aurora, the Community Sponsor for Green Town: Aurora.
 
A5 and Seven Generations Ahead
A5 and Seven Generations Ahead agree to take responsibility for all planning, instructional design, speaker selection, marketing, sponsor procurement, public relations, event coordination and contracts with venues, speakers, sponsors and suppliers.
 
City of Aurora
The City of Aurora agrees to assist in site selection, participate in instructional design and agenda, invite community, state and federal stakeholders as desired, participate in opening and closing of conference, work with media as needed, and contribute $10,000 as the sole Community Sponsor.  Payment will be made to Seven Generations Ahead within 45 days of contract agreement signing.
