A Resolution appointing Estrella Ugalde and Simon Rodriguez, Jr. and reappointing Hector Ochoa, Maria Hidalgo del Carmen, Dr. Adrienne Holloway, Mariana Ponce-Hill, Barbara Hernandez, Ashley Martinez, Josie Alcarez Tanksley, Junelly Gonzalez, Alberto Reynaga-Arreola and Janel Cabadas to the Aurora Hispanic Heritage Advisory Board.
DISCUSSION:
The Aurora Hispanic Heritage Advisory Board (AHHAB) is a non-partisan, community-based, seventeen (17) member advisory board that supports and participates in activities that promote a deeper understanding of the Hispanic community. In addition to supporting community-wide events in Aurora, the AHHAB also hosts two major annual events, El Dia de los Ninos and a Community Breakfast. In 2015, the board is also hosting Fiestas Patrias at RiverEdge Park. There are currently vacancies on the board as well as expired terms.
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended the City Council approve the proposed appointment and reappointments to the Aurora Hispanic Heritage Advisory Board.

WHEREAS, the City of Aurora has a population of more than 25,000 persons and is, therefore, a home rule unit under subsection (a) of Section 6 of Article VII of the Illinois Constitution of 1970; and
WHEREAS, subject to said Section, a home rule unit may exercise any power and perform any function pertaining to its government and affairs for the protection of the public health, safety, morals, and welfare; and
WHEREAS, vacancies and expired terms currently exist on the Aurora Hispanic Heritage Advisory Board; and
WHEREAS, it is the Mayor's desire that the recommended candidates be appointed and reappointed to said board.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Aurora, Illinois, hereby approve the appointments of Estrella Ugalde, North Aurora, IL and Simon Rodriguez, Jr., Aurora, IL and the reappointments of Hector Ochoa, Aurora, IL, Maria Hidalgo del Carmen, Aurora, IL, Dr. Adrienne Holloway, N. Aurora, IL, Mariana Ponce-Hill, Aurora, IL, Barbara Hernandez, Aurora, IL, Ashley Martinez, Aurora, IL, Josie Alcarez Tanksley, Aurora, IL, Junelly Gonzalez, Aurora, IL, Alberto Reynaga-Arreola, Aurora and IL Janel Cabadas, Oswego, IL to the Aurora Hispanic Heritage Advisory Board.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the terms of Estrella Ugalde, Simon Rodriguez, Jr., Hector Ochoa, Dr. Adrienne Holloway, Mariana Ponce-Hill, Ashley Martinez, Josie Alcarez Tanksley shall expire on March 31, 2019 and the terms of Junelly Gonzalez, Barbara Hernandez, Maria Hidalgo del Carmen, Alberto Reynaga-Arreola and Janel Cabadas shall expire on March 31, 2018, however, in any event, they shall continue to serve until their respective replacements have been approved by the Council.
