A Resolution appointing Dr. Vincent Gaddis and reappointing Robert Lundquist to the Aurora Human Relations Commission.
DISCUSSION:
The Human Relations Commission (HRC) was established to provide investigative, consultative, cooperative, mediative, educational and promotional and advisory services to the residents of the City of Aurora in furtherance of the legacy of Marie Wilkinson, a lifetime resident of the City of Aurora and pioneer in the realm of social and civil activism who dedicated her life to the fight against poverty, discrimination, hunger, homelessness and injustice in the City of Aurora.
The twelve member commission is currently in need of new members.
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended the City Council approve the appointment of Dr. Vincent Gaddis and the reappointment of Robert Lundquist to the Aurora Human Relations Commission.

WHEREAS, the City of Aurora has a population of more than 25,000 persons and is, therefore, a home rule unit under subsection (a) of Section 6 of Article VII of the Illinois Constitution of 1970; and
WHEREAS, subject to said Section, a home rule unit may exercise any power and perform any function pertaining to its government and affairs for the protection of the public health, safety, morals, and welfare; and
WHEREAS, vacancies and an expired term currently exist on the Human Relations Commission; and
WHEREAS, it is the Mayor's desire that said candidate be appointed and reappointed.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Aurora, Illinois, hereby approve the appointment Dr. Vincent Gaddis, Aurora, IL and reappointment of Robert Lundquist, Aurora, IL to the Aurora Human Relations Commission.
NOW BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the term of Dr. Vincent Gaddis shall expire on August 1, 2021, and the term of Robert Lundquist shall expire on August 1, 2020, however, in any event, they shall continue to serve until their respective replacements have been approved by the Council.
