SUBJECT:
A resolution appointing Janine McDonough to the Advisory Commission on Disabilities.
BACKGROUND:
In October of 2018, the City Council voted to create a new advisory committee focused on better supporting persons in the community with disabilities. The Advisory Commission on Disabilities is working to identify areas of improvements which may be made in the city. The commission will work with city departments and partner agencies.
DISCUSSION:
The commission is be comprised of nine (9) members and utilizes an active advisory subcommittee as well as identified key partner agencies.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
Approval of this appointment will allow the commission to continue their work with the community.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
It is respectfully requested the nominated member be appointed to the new Advisory Commission on Disabilities.

WHEREAS, the City of Aurora has a population of more than 25,000 persons and is, therefore, a home rule unit under subsection (a) of Section 6 of Article VII of the Illinois Constitution of 1970; and
WHEREAS, subject to said Section, a home rule unit may exercise any power and perform any function pertaining to its government and affairs for the protection of the public health, safety, morals, and welfare; and
WHEREAS, the City of Aurora's Advisory Commission on Disabilities is in need of members; and
WHEREAS, it is the Mayor's desire that said candidate be appointed.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Aurora, Illinois, hereby approve the appointment of Janine McDonough, of Aurora, IL, to the Advisory Commission on Disabilities.
NOW BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the term of Janine McDonough shall expire on January 31, 2022; however, in any event, she shall continue to serve until her respective replacement has been approved by the City Council.
