body

PURPOSE:

This day is the anniversary of the signing of the armistice, which ended the World War I hostilities between the Allied nations and Germany in 1918. Veterans are thanked for their services to the United States on Veterans Day. The activities honor our local current and past military with a parade and ceremony.

BACKGROUND:

This event is hosted by the City of Aurora.  Staging begins at 9:15 on Benton between Broadway and Stolp.  Parade step-off is at 10:15 at Benton and Broadway, proceeds north to Downer, turning west and ending at the G.A.R.  All units then gather in front of the G.A.R. for a ceremony which includes a guest speaker and rifle salute.  The ceremony concludes at approximately 11:15.

DISCUSSION:

The event is being staged on Friday, November 10th in accordance with the National Day of Observation.

Closing streets on a Saturday morning can be problematic for the businesses and residents.

The event is budgeted from Special Events account #101-1341-450.53-10.
