A resolution appointing Paul Chabez, Jr. and reappointing Terry Bohr, Paul Buddy, Kevin Ream, Richard Ray, Michael Cotteleer and Mike Kluber to the Permanent Building and Fire Code Committee.
PURPOSE:
The purpose of this memo is to recommend the appointment of one new member and reappointment of six existing members to the Permanent Building and Fire Code Committee.
BACKGROUND:
The Permanent Building and Fire Code Committee's members are comprised of current Building Code Board of Appeals and Fire Code Board of Appeals members with one additional appointee. The Permanent Building and Fire Code Committee, led by the city's Building and Permits Department, is preparing to undergo the process of adopting an updated series of codes and having the board staffed and all appointments up to date is an important part of that process.
DISCUSSION:
Member's terms on the Permanent Building and Fire Code Board of Appeals correspond with their respective terms on the Building or Fire Code Board of Appeals. Member terms for both the Building Code Board of Appeals and the Fire Code Board of Appeals were recently updated, thus these reappointments are necessary to ensure the terms correspond. The additional appointee resigned, so the Director of Building and Permits, John Curley, worked to find a new candidate with the appropriate qualifications to submit for the board. Resumes and/or biographies for the appointee and reappointments are attached.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
It is recommended the appointment and reappointments be approved.

WHEREAS, the City of Aurora has a population of more than 25,000 persons and is, therefore, a home rule unit under subsection (a) of Section 6 of Article VII of the Illinois Constitution of 1970; and
WHEREAS, subject to said Section, a home rule unit may exercise any power and perform any function pertaining to its government and affairs for the protection of the public health, safety, morals, and welfare; and
WHEREAS, there is one vacancy and six members of the Permanent Building and Fire Code Committee's terms have expired; and
WHEREAS, it is the Mayor's desire that Paul Chabez, Jr. be appointed and Paul Buddy, Terry Bohr, Kevin Ream, Mike Kluber, Richard Ray and Michael Cotteleer be reappointed to the said Committee.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Aurora, Illinois, hereby approve the appointment of Paul Chabez, Jr., Aurora, IL and the reappointments of Paul Buddy, Montgomery, IL, Terry Bohr, Aurora, IL, Kevin Ream, Aurora, IL, Michael Kluber, Batavia, IL, Richard Ray, Burr Ridge, IL and Michael Cotteleer, West Chicago, IL to the Permanent Building and Fire Code Committee.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the term of Paul Chabez, Jr. shall expire June 30, 2017, and the terms of Terry Bohr, Richard Ray and Michael Cotteleer shall expire with their corresponding term dates on the Fire Code Board of Appeals and the terms of Paul Buddy, Kevin Ream and Mike Kluber shall expire with their corresponding terms on the Building Code Board of Appeals, however, in any event, the appointees shall serve until their respective replacements have been approved by the Council.
