SUBJECT:

Adoption of a resolution authorizing the Director of Purchasing to enter into a contract with Youngren's Inc. 736 New Haven Ave, Aurora IL, 60506 for the installation of ventilation improvements for the Water and Sewer Maintenance building located at 649 S. River Street.

 

PURPOSE:

To bring the ventilation system for the Water and Sewer Maintenance Building into compliance with current building codes and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requirements.

 

BACKGROUND:

The existing ventilation system for the Water and Sewer Maintenance building is primarily used to exhaust carbon monoxide created by vehicles and heavy machinery. The existing system is inadequately sized and outdated.

 

DISCUSSION:

On October 10th, 2018, the City Clerk received and opened two bids for the ventilation improvements.The low bid was submitted by Youngren's Incorporated in the amount of $66,124.00. Please see attached bid tabulation and bid submitted by Youngren's Incorporated. Funding for this project is included in the 2018 budget in account number 510-4063-511.38-05 within the Water and Sewer Fund.

 

 

IMPACT STATEMENT:

Failure to approve this work could potentially result in employees being exposed to excessive amounts of carbon monoxide.

 

RECOMMENDATIONS:

Please consider adopting the proposed resolution.

WHEREAS, the City of Aurora has a population of more than 25,000 persons and is, therefore, a home rule unit under subsection (a) of Section 6 of Article VII of the Illinois Constitution of 1970; and

 

WHEREAS, subject to said Section, a home rule unit may exercise any power and perform any function pertaining to its government and affairs for the protection of the public health, safety, morals, and welfare; and

 

WHEREAS, the existing ventilation system for the City of Aurora's Water and Sewer Maintenance building is inadequately sized and out dated; and

 

WHEREAS, On October 10th, 2018 the City Clerk received and publicly opened two bids for the installation of a new ventilation system for the City of Aurora owned building located at 649 S. River Street; and

 

WHEREAS, Youngren's Incorporated was the low bidder for the proposed improvements; and

 

 WHEREAS, funding for this project is included in the 2018 budget in the Water and Sewer Fund within account 510-4063-511.38-05.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Aurora, Illinois, as follows: The Director of Purchasing is hereby authorized to enter into a contract with Youngren's Inc. 736 New Haven Ave, Aurora IL, 60506, for the amount not to exceed sixty six thousand one hundred and twenty four dollars and no cents ($66,124.00) for the installation of ventilation improvements for the Water and Sewer Maintenance building located at 649 S. River Street.
