TO: Mayor Richard C. Irvin
FROM: Wendy McCambridge, City Clerk
DATE: November 9, 2017
SUBJECT:
Resolution Establishing the Maximum Number of City of Aurora Liquor Licenses by Class.
PURPOSE:
To maintain the number of Class G - Package Beer and Wine licenses at 15.
BACKGROUND:
This request is presented in accordance with the 2011 amendment to the City's Liquor Ordinance, specifically Section 6-9(a), which charges the City Council with the authority to determine the number of licenses available in each classification.
DISCUSSION:
Aldi Inc. dba Aldi to be located at 2275 W. Galena Blvd., Aurora, IL 60506 has submitted a liquor license application for a Class G license for the purpose of selling to the general public beer and wine in original packages only, for consumption off the premises. The applicant currently has a Class G liquor license at a location across the street and is building a new and larger location across the street. No changes have been made to the ownership or management for the new location.
Attached is the application submitted for your consideration. If approved, this resolution would increase the number of allowable liquor licenses as indicated in the accompanying Exhibit A to allow for the issuance of the licenses by the Commissioner. City staff has been working with the business representatives to ensure that all requirements for a liquor license, as set forth in Chapter 6 of the City's Code of Ordinances, are met.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
The proposed resolution presents an opportunity to further the City of Aurora's economic development.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
I am recommending that this resolution be referred to the November 21, 2017 meeting of the Government Operations Committee for consideration.
