A Resolution Authorizing the Appointment of Jason Bauer as the Assistant Director of Public Works.
PURPOSE:
To obtain authorization to appoint Jason Bauer as the Assistant Director of Public Works.
BACKGROUND:
The retirement of Stephen Andras created a vacancy for the position of Assistant City Engineer.
In addition, due to the reorganization of City department and divisions, the Public Works Department has been expanded significantly. In order to ensure proper management of the additional operational functions in Public Works, an Assistant Director of Public Works is needed.
DISCUSSION:
The position of Assistant Director of Public Works was posted internally and three qualified individuals were interviewed. After a thorough assessment and consideration of his education, skills and experience, Jason Bauer was selected for the position. He has sixteen years of experience involving a variety of civil engineering disciplines. He has been with the City of Aurora since October 20, 2014. Jason has a master’s degree from the University of Illinois in Civil Engineering and is a licensed professional engineer. He has successfully functioned as a coordinator of engineering projects as well as demonstrated the ability to management staff and contractors effectively.
Jason will also assume the responsibilities of the Assistant City Engineer position, which will not be backfilled.
The new position will be codified in the upcoming 2017 budget amendment, effective upon approval.

WHEREAS, the City of Aurora has a population of more than 25,000 persons and is, therefore, a home rule unit under subsection (a) of Section 6 of Article VII of the Illinois Constitution of 1970; and
WHEREAS, subject to said Section, a home rule unit may exercise any power and perform any function pertaining to its government and affairs for the protection of the public health, safety, morals, and welfare; and
WHEREAS, the City of Aurora is in need of an Assistant Director of Public Works; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Council have determined that Jason Bauer best meets the qualifications to fill said position.)
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Aurora, Illinois, as follows: the Mayor is hereby authorized to appoint Jason Bauer to the position of Assistant Director of Public Works.
