Request to accept Kone Inc. for complete maintenance agreement for the vertical transportation equipment (elevators) located at the Police Headquarters and the maintenance contract rider for the Development Services Center.
PURPOSE:
Continued maintenance for the elevators at the Police Headquarters and the Development Services Center will provide safe and reliable elevators for the citizens of Aurora and city employees.
BACKGROUND:
Kone Inc. has been maintaining the elevators at the Police Headquarters since 2010. At the time, the city entered into a 10 year agreement with Kone to provide those services. When the purchase of 77 S. Broadway was made, informal solicitations for the repairs were requested and Kone, Inc. was the lowest, most responsible for those repairs. At that time, they also offered a 5% discount to the existing Police Headquarters agreement, if we selected them to provide the preventative maintenance agreement at the Development Services Center.
DISCUSSION:
The elevators at the Police Headquarters (a 24-hour facility) are currently under contract with Kone Inc. The quarterly cost is $6,447.24 bring the annual total for the Police Headquarters to $25,788.96. With the additional quarterly cost for the Development Services Center, at $657.00, $2628.00/annual. The total annual cost for both locations is $28,416.96. The funds for the total amount of $28,416.96 is located in account 101-4010-417-38.14.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
Scheduled maintenance for the elevators at the Police Headquarters and the Development Services Center will not impact the general public, or any City departments and divisions
RECOMMENDATIONS:
I request the approval of Kone Inc., located at 1080 Parkview Blvd. Lombard, IL 60148, for the continued maintenance of the elevators located at the Police Headquarters and the Development Services Center.

WHEREAS, the City of Aurora has a population of more than 25,000 persons and is, therefore, a home rule unit under subsection (a) of Section 6 of Article VII of the Illinois Constitution of 1970; and
WHEREAS, subject to said Section, a home rule unit may exercise any power and perform any function pertaining to its government and affairs for the protection of the public health, safety, morals, and welfare; and
WHEREAS, the elevators located at the Police Headquarters (a 24-hour facility) and the Development Services Center should get regular schedule maintenance for safety and extend the life of the equipment; and
WHEREAS, Kone Inc., is a reputable company that currently holds an existing maintenance contract for the Police Headquarters elevators, and
WHEREAS, this maintenance agreement will be paid from account 101-4010-417-38.14.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Aurora, Illinois, as follows: that the complete maintenance agreement with Kone Inc., of Lombard, IL will be approved to continue maintenance of the elevators located at the Police headquarters and the Development Services Center, and the Director of Purchasing is hereby authorized to sign the necessary orders to implement purchase of same.
