A Resolution to Award the 2014 City Wide Sidewalk Repair Project to D'Land Construction in the Amount of $411,175.00
PURPOSE:
Since 2004, the City of Aurora has implemented a city wide sidewalk project to maintain over 1,000 miles of public sidewalks. The Engineering Department identifies sidewalks that have become deteriorated and need to be replaced. Residents can also request to have their sidewalks checked for eligibility to be replaced.
BACKGROUND:
The 2014 Sidewalk Repair Project will include the replacement of 57,650 square feet of sidewalk at over 90 different street locations as listed on Exhibit 'A'.
DISCUSSION:
Bids for this project were opened and publicly read on February 12, 2014. The bid tabulation for the 6 bids submitted is attached as Exhibit 'B'. The lowest responsible bid was submitted by D'Land Construction of Bensenville, IL in the amount of $411,175.00 which is close to the Engineer's Cost Estimate of $412,250. D'Land completed the 2010 Sidewalk Project. We recommend awarding the 2014 City Wide Sidewalk Repair Project to D'Land Construction LLC for the unit prices submitted. The 2014 City Budget provides $411,175.00 for this item in account no. 340-4460-431.38-61 (CapA).

WHEREAS, the City of Aurora has a population of more than 25,000 persons and is, therefore, a home rule unit under subsection (a) of Section 6 of Article VII of the Illinois Constitution of 1970; and
WHEREAS, subject to said Section, a home rule unit may exercise any power and perform any function pertaining to its government and affairs for the protection of the public health, safety, morals, and welfare; and
WHEREAS, it is necessary and desirable to repair the deteriorated sidewalks listed hereto and incorporated as Exhibit 'A'; and
WHEREAS, bids were received and publicly opened and read on February 12, 2014 with bid tabulation attached hereto and incorporated as Exhibit 'B'; and
WHEREAS, D'Land Construction LLC, 600 S. County Line Road, #1N, Bensenville, IL 60106 was the lowest responsible bidder in the amount of Four Hundred Eleven Thousand One Hundred Seventy Five Dollars and 00 Cents ($411,175.00); and
WHEREAS, the 2014 City Budget provides $411,175.00 for this item in account no. 340-4460-431.38-61 (CapA)
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Aurora, Illinois, as follows: that the Mayor and City Clerk are hereby authorized to execute a contract with D'Land Construction LLC for the unit prices shown within the bid as set forth in Exhibit 'B'.
