A resolution appointing Robert Shemansky and reappointing Paul Chabez Jr., Mike Kluber and Terrence Lindsay to the Permanent Building & Fire Code Committee.
PURPOSE:
The purpose of this memo is to recommend the appointment of one new member and the reappointment of three existing members to the Permanent Building and Fire Code Committee.
BACKGROUND:
The Permanent Building and Fire Code Committee's members are comprised of current Building Code Board of Appeals and Fire Code Board of Appeals members with one additional appointee. The Permanent Building and Fire Code Committee, led by the city's Building and Permits Department, is continuing their work on the process of adopting an updated series of codes and having the board staffed and all appointments up to date is an important part of that process.
DISCUSSION:
Member's terms on the Permanent Building and Fire Code Board of Appeals correspond with their respective terms on the Building or Fire Code Board of Appeals. Member terms for both the Building Code Board of Appeals and the Fire Code Board of Appeals were recently updated, thus these reappointments are necessary to ensure the terms correspond. Resumes and/or biographies for the appointee and reappointments are attached.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
It is recommended the appointment and reappointments be approved.

WHEREAS, the City of Aurora has a population of more than 25,000 persons and is, therefore, a home rule unit under subsection (a) of Section 6 of Article VII of the Illinois Constitution of 1970; and
WHEREAS, subject to said Section, a home rule unit may exercise any power and perform any function pertaining to its government and affairs for the protection of the public health, safety, morals, and welfare; and
WHEREAS, there is one term available for appointment and the other three reappointments' terms had expired; and
WHEREAS, it is the Mayor's desire that Robert Shemansky be appointed and Paul Chabez Jr., Mike Kluber and Terrence Lindsay be reappointed to the said Committee.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Aurora, Illinois, hereby approve the appointment of Robert Shemansky, North Aurora, IL and the reappointments of Paul Chabez Jr., Aurora, IL, Mike Kluber, Batavia, IL and Terrence Lindsay, Sugar Grove, IL to the Permanent Building and Fire Code Committee.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the term of Robert Shemansky, Mike Kluber and Terrence Lindsay shall expire with their corresponding term dates on the Building Code Board of Appeals and the term of Paul Chabez Jr. shall expire with his corresponding term date on the Fire Code Board of Appeals, however, in any event, they shall continue to serve until their respective replacements have been approved by the Council.
