A Resolution Authorizing the Appointment of Jessica Kalal as Assistant Corporation Counsel.
PURPOSE:
To obtain authorization to appoint Jessica Kalal as Assistant Corporation Counsel.
BACKGROUND:
In accordance with the City of Aurora Ordinance, the position is appointed by the Mayor with the consent of the City Council.
DISCUSSION:
Jessica Kalal has a Bachelor's of Arts Degree in English from Elmhurst College and a Juris Doctor from The John Marshall Law School. She has been working in the legal field since 2010. Jessica has an extensive background representing and serving as general counsel to municipalities, school districts, fire protection districts, public housing authorities and water reclamation districts. She has worked closely with the city through the firm of Mickey, Wilson, Weiler, Renzi and Anderson since 2017. Starting July of 2018 Jessica was assigned exclusively to work with our Law office. During the assignment Jessica has been involved in reviewing and revising ordinances and policies, attending court on behalf of the City to prosecute violations and a variety of other important legal matters.
Jessica's background and knowledge of the inner workings of the City will make her a definite asset to our Law Department.

WHEREAS, the City of Aurora has a population of more than 25,000 persons and is, therefore, a home rule unit under subsection (a) of Section 6 of Article VII of the Illinois Constitution of 1970; and
WHEREAS, subject to said Section, a home rule unit may exercise any power and perform any function pertaining to its government and affairs for the protection of the public health, safety, morals, and welfare; and
WHEREAS, the City of Aurora is in need of an Assistant Corporation Counsel; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Council have determined that Jessica Kalal best meets the qualifications to fill said position.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Aurora, Illinois, as follows: the Mayor is hereby authorized to appoint Jessica Kalal to the position of Assistant Corporation Counsel.
