A resolution to accept a proposal from Superior Excavating, Inc., P.O. Box 575, Channahon, IL 60410 for the Hankes Road Culvert Replacement in the amount of $59,600.00.

PURPOSE:
To accept the proposal for the above referenced project.
BACKGROUND:
At the June 23, 2014 BGI Committee Meeting the Engineering Division received authorization to utilize BGI funds to replace the dual storm culverts on Hankes Road north of Galena Blvd. which are deteriorated to the point of potentially collapsing under the roadway. The replacement of these old CMP culverts with new concrete box culverts will alleviate future sink holes in the roadway as well as improve the flow of storm water.
DISCUSSION:
Proposals for the culvert replacement were received from three contractors (Exhibit A). The lowest responsible bidder was Superior Excavating, Inc. in the amount of $59,600.00. The 2014 budget contains funds for this project in B010 account # 280-1852-512.81-01 (BGI Committee Projects). The vendor has no outstanding debts with the City.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
This work will require the closing of Hankes Road for a short period of time.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
We respectfully request this item be forwarded to the BGI Committee for their review and recommendation.

WHEREAS, the City of Aurora has a population of more than 25,000 persons and is, therefore, a home rule unit under subsection (a) of Section 6 of Article VII of the Illinois Constitution of 1970; and
WHEREAS, subject to said Section, a home rule unit may exercise any power and perform any function pertaining to its government and affairs for the protection of the public health, safety, morals, and welfare; and
WHEREAS, three proposals for the Hankes Road Culvert Replacement were received (Exhibit A); and
WHEREAS, Superior Excavating, Inc., P.O. Box 575, Channahon, IL 60410 was the low bidder in the amount of $59,600.00 (Exhibit A); and
WHEREAS, funding has been provided in Project B010 account # 280-1852-512.81-01; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Aurora, Illinois, as follows: that the Director of Purchasing be and is hereby authorized to enter into a contract with Superior Excavating, Inc., P.O. Box 575, Channahon, IL 60410 for the Hankes Road Culvert Replacement as per the bid proposal contained in Exhibit A.

Exhibit A - bid proposals
