DATE: January 29, 2016
SUBJECT:
Approval to purchase a 2016 GMC 3500 cargo van for the Police Department from Coffman Truck Sales in the amount of $26,547.00
PURPOSE:
To maintain the Police fleet of Transport Vans
BACKGROUND:
The Police have six transport vans in their fleet. Unit #36-191 which is a 2007 model year cargo van has 162,961 miles and has been approved to be replaced this year.
The City of Aurora has standardized all cargo vans to the GMC 3500 due to their durability, efficiency, and drivability. This van has provided exceptional service for all divisions using cargo vans. As a matter of fact, the retired Police vans after 100,000 miles in some cases are handed down to other divisions that need cargo vans without passenger interiors.
DISCUSSION:
Earlier this year, bid packages were sent to local Chevrolet and General Motors Company truck dealers. Coffman Truck Sales, located at 1149 W. Lake Street, Aurora, IL was the only dealer that submitted a bid. Their bid is $26,547.00 for a 2016 GMC Savanna 3500 cargo van
In account 255-3536-421-6620 there is $28,000.00 budgeted for this purchase.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
The purchase of a new 2016 cargo van will assure that the Police Department has a dependable fleet of vans
RECOMMENDATIONS:
That the City Council approve a resolution to purchase a cargo van for the Police Department from Coffman Truck Sales in the amount of $26,547.00
