A Resolution appointing Durrell Williams to the Aurora African American Heritage Advisory Board.
DISCUSSION:
The Aurora African American Heritage Advisory Board (AAHAB) is a non-partisan, community-based, fifteen (15) member advisory board that supports and participates in activities that promote a deeper understanding of the African American community. In addition to supporting community-wide events in Aurora, the AAHAB also hosts a yearly scholarship dinner.
There are currently two vacancies on the board, Durrell will fill one of the vacancies.
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended the City Council approve the proposed appointment to the Aurora African American Heritage Advisory Board.

WHEREAS, the City of Aurora has a population of more than 25,000 persons and is, therefore, a home rule unit under subsection (a) of Section 6 of Article VII of the Illinois Constitution of 1970; and
WHEREAS, subject to said Section, a home rule unit may exercise any power and perform any function pertaining to its government and affairs for the protection of the public health, safety, morals, and welfare; and
WHEREAS, there are currently vacancies on the Aurora African American Heritage Advisory Board; and
WHEREAS, it is the Mayor's desire that the recommended candidate be appointed to said board.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Aurora, Illinois, hereby approve the appointment of Durrell Williams, Aurora, IL to the Aurora African American Heritage Advisory Board.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the term of Durrell Williams shall expire on April 30, 2020 however, in any event, he shall continue to serve until his respective replacement has been approved by the Council.
