Requesting the approval to accept the bid from Abbey Paving for the Aurora Transportation Center's ("ATC") concrete sidewalk and light base replacement including new electrical conduit and wire in the amount of $98,391.30
PURPOSE:
The ATC concrete sidewalk that surrounds the building is in poor condition. The sidewalk has been patched numerous times and there continues to be tripping hazards that require constant maintenance. In addition the decorative light pole bases are in poor condition as well as the electrical conduit and wiring.
BACKGROUND:
Wills Burke Kelsey Associates were hire to write the specifications for this project to assure Aurora received bids from qualified companies as well as review bid proposals and make a recommendation.
DISCUSSION:
Four companies submitted bids for the ATC's sidewalk and light base replacement. Abbey Paving located at 1949 County Line Road, Aurora, IL, submitted the low bid of $98,391.30. WBK in their February 5, 2015 letter recommended Abbey Paving for this project.
In the Transit account 530-4433-437-3818 (Sidewalk Replacement - other) there is $64,470 reserved for the sidewalk and light post replacement as part of the CIP A055. A budget transfer will be requested to cover the additional costs of this project
IMPACT STATEMENT:
This project will improved the walkability around the Aurora Transit Center and will assure that the outside lighting is in working order.
No impact to other departments.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
I'm requesting the approval to accept the bid from Abbey Paving for the Aurora Transportation Center's concrete sidewalk and light base replacement in the amount of $98,391.30.

WHEREAS, the City of Aurora has a population of more than 25,000 persons and is, therefore, a home rule unit under subsection (a) of Section 6 of Article VII of the Illinois Constitution of 1970; and
WHEREAS, subject to said Section, a home rule unit may exercise any power and perform any function pertaining to its government and affairs for the protection of the public health, safety, morals, and welfare; and
WHEREAS, the ATC concrete sidewalk that surrounds the building is in poor condition. The sidewalk has been patched numerous times and there continues to be tripping hazards that require constant maintenance. In addition the decorative light pole bases are in poor condition as well as the electrical conduit and wiring, and:
