A Resolution appointing Victoria Esparza, Daniel Gonzalez and Noemi Vargas to the Aurora Hispanic Heritage Advisory Board.
DISCUSSION:
The Aurora Hispanic Heritage Advisory Board (AHHAB) is a non-partisan, community-based, seventeen (17) member advisory board that supports and participates in activities that promote a deeper understanding of the Hispanic community. In addition to supporting community-wide events in Aurora, the AHHAB also hosts two major annual events, El Dia de los Ninos and a Community Breakfast. In 2015, the board began to assist in hosting Fiestas Patrias. There are currently vacancies on the board.
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended the City Council approve the proposed appointments to the Aurora Hispanic Heritage Advisory Board.

WHEREAS, the City of Aurora has a population of more than 25,000 persons and is, therefore, a home rule unit under subsection (a) of Section 6 of Article VII of the Illinois Constitution of 1970; and
WHEREAS, subject to said Section, a home rule unit may exercise any power and perform any function pertaining to its government and affairs for the protection of the public health, safety, morals, and welfare; and
WHEREAS, vacancies currently exist on the Aurora Hispanic Heritage Advisory Board; and
WHEREAS, it is the Mayor's desire that the recommended candidates be appointed and reappointed to said board.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Aurora, Illinois, hereby approve the appointments of appointing Victoria Esparza of Aurora, IL, Daniel Gonzalez of Aurora, IL and Noemi Vargas of Aurora, IL to the Aurora Hispanic Heritage Advisory Board.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the terms of Victoria Esparza and Daniel Gonzalez shall expire on March 31, 2020 and Noemi Vargas shall expire on March 31, 2021, however, in any event, they shall continue to serve until their respective replacements have been approved by the Council.
