TO: Mayor John Laesch
FROM: Jennifer Stallings, City Clerk
DATE: August 5, 2026
SUBJECT:
A Resolution maintaining the maximum number of liquor licenses by class.
PURPOSE:
To approve the current number of Class A - Package Sales (Beer & Wine Only) liquor licenses.
BACKGROUND:
This request is presented in accordance with the 2011 amendment to the City's Liquor Ordinance, specifically Section 6-9(a), which charges the City Council with the authority to determine the number of licenses available in each classification.
DISCUSSION:
Saldivar Food Market, Inc., d/b/a Aurora Food Market (currently Alma Food Market) at 823 Aurora Ave. will be purchasing the business and approval for the issuance of a new liquor license is being sought. This grocery store is currently the Alma Food Market that has held a liquor license in the same location conducting the same business since 2016. Due to the square footage of the business, this will be a beer & wine only license.
If approved, this resolution will maintain the number of Class A licenses after the sale of the business, as indicated in the accompanying Exhibit A, and will allow for the issuance of the license by the Liquor Commissioner.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
The proposed resolution presents an opportunity to further the City of Aurora's economic development and to bring additional revenue to the City of Aurora.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Staff recommends that this resolution be approved.
