Requesting approval of the low bid from Geneva Construction for the asphalt repairs to the Aurora Transportation Center's east platform lot and drive in the amount of $40,257.00.
PURPOSE:
To maintain the Aurora Transportation Center's ("ATC") east platform lot and drive.
BACKGROUND:
The ATC's east platform lot and drive lane have storm drains located in the center of the drive and lot. Due to the drain location all storm water drains to the center thus accelerates the deterioration of the asphalt surfaces.
Two contractors submitted bids for the asphalt repairs to the ATC's east platform drive and lot. Geneva Construction was the low bidder and is recommended by Wills Burke Kelsey Associates (see the attached).
DISCUSSION:
The asphalt repair to the center of the drive lane and lot should provide a reliable asphalt surface for many years.
In the Transit Center account 530-4433-437-73-20 there is $174,900.00 reserved to fund this repair.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
The repairs will only impact the 142 permit holders during construction. The specification require the contractor to always keep one lane open during construction.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
To approve Geneva Construction for the asphalt repairs to the ATC's east platform drive lane and lot in the amount of $40,257.00

WHEREAS, the City of Aurora has a population of more than 25,000 persons and is, therefore, a home rule unit under subsection (a) of Section 6 of Article VII of the Illinois Constitution of 1970; and
WHEREAS, subject to said Section, a home rule unit may exercise any power and perform any function pertaining to its government and affairs for the protection of the public health, safety, morals, and welfare; and
WHEREAS, the ATC's east platform lot and drive lane have storm drains in the center of the drive and lot. Due to the drain location all storm water drains to the center thus accelerates the deterioration of the asphalt surfaces, and
WHEREAS, two contractors submitted bids for the asphalt repairs to the ATC's east platform drive and lot. Geneva Construction was the low bidder and is recommended by Wills Burke Kelsey Associates, and
WHEREAS, Transit Center account 530-4433-437-73-20 there is $174,900.00 reserved to fund this repair.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Aurora, Illinois, as follows: to approve Geneva Construction for the asphalt repairs to the Aurora Transportation Center's east platform drive lane and lot in the amount of $40,257.00
