DATE:                     August 2, 2018

SUBJECT:

Resolution Establishing the Maximum Number of City of Aurora Liquor Licenses by Class.

PURPOSE:

To establish the number of Class A - Tavern license for the number of Class A licenses at 11.

BACKGROUND:

This request is presented in accordance with the 2011 amendment to the City's Liquor Ordinance, specifically Section 6-9(a), which charges the City Council with the authority to determine the number of licenses available in each classification.

DISCUSSION:

D.C.'s Good Times d/b/a The Aurora Tap House to be located at 134 W. Downer Place, has submitted a liquor license application for a Class A license for the purpose of selling to the general public alcoholic liquor by the drink for consumption on the premises where sold. The business is to be located in the space currently occupied by The Web. This application is to make the change to the new owners of record for the establishment.

Attached is the application submitted for your consideration. If approved, this resolution would maintain the number of allowable liquor licenses as indicated in the accompanying Exhibit A to allow for the issuance of the licenses by the Commissioner. City staff has been working with the business representatives to ensure that all requirements for a liquor license, as set forth in Chapter 6 of the City's Code of Ordinances, are met.

IMPACT STATEMENT:

The proposed resolution presents an opportunity to further the City of Aurora's economic development.

RECOMMENDATIONS:

I am recommending that this resolution be referred to the August 21, 2018 meeting of the Committee of the Whole for consideration.
