Request authority to purchase thirteen Panasonic Toughpad computers from CDS Office Technologies in the amount of $48,464.00 for the Fire Department.     
 
PURPOSE:
The fire department is in need of thirteen replacement vehicle laptops.  The current laptops are over five years old, and are no longer under warranty.       
 
BACKGROUND:
Half of fire department vehicle laptops were replaced in 2016.  As scheduled, this purchase will replace the other half.  These replacements will also better allow support of the fire department in their transition to a new public safety CAD system.   
 
DISCUSSION:
Besides replacing out of warranty laptops, this purchase will better allow MIS to support the fire department in their transition to a new public safety CAD system.  It will allow MIS to maintain a full fleet of laptops on the old and new CAD systems during any transitional period.
 
This is a budgeted purchase and funds are available in MIS accounts 255-1232-419.64-12 and 101-1232-419.64-12.
 
This purchase will be made off of State of Illinois Master Contract #CMS5848520. 
 
A copy of a per unit quote, product brochure, and state contract are attached.
The Finance Department has been notified to ensure CDS does not have outstanding debt with the City.      
 
IMPACT STATEMENT:
Impact on the public is positive, as rescue vehicles will be equipped with updated computer equipment.  There will be a positive impact on the Fire Department, as it will ensure their compatibility with the new CAD system.  The purchase will also support a major public safety technological initiative.     
 
RECOMMENDATIONS:
I request approval to make the aforementioned purchase.

WHEREAS, the City of Aurora has a population of more than 25,000 persons and is, therefore, a home rule unit under subsection (a) of Section 6 of Article VII of the Illinois Constitution of 1970; and
 
WHEREAS, subject to said Section, a home rule unit may exercise any power and perform any function pertaining to its government and affairs for the protection of the public health, safety, morals, and welfare; and
 
WHEREAS, the Fire Department is in need of replacement Panasonic Toughpad computers in their vehicles, and
 
WHEREAS, funds are available in accounts 101-1232-419.64-12 and 255-1232-419.64-12, and
 
WHEREAS, the required computers are supplied by CDS Office Technologies through of State of Illinois Master Contract #CMS5848520; and    
 
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Aurora, Illinois, as follows: approves the purchase of thirteen Panasonic Toughpad computers off of State of Illinois Master Contract #CMS5848520 from CDS Office Technologies in the amount of $48,464.00, and the Director of Purchasing is hereby authorized to execute all associated purchasing documents.
