A Resolution reappointing Landa Midgley, Jane Regnier, John Stanicek, Chris Hoban and Gail Piccolo and appointing Nafisa Husain, Alexis Cardenas, Melissa Mercado and Julie Gervais to the Aurora Public Art Commission.
DISCUSSION:
The Aurora Public Art Commission (APAC) is a nine (9) member board tasked with overseeing the David L. Pierce Art & History Center and the Grand Army of the Republic. The APAC is required to have a blend of educators and local representatives of the business community in addition to artists. Two of the four new members are in the education field, one is a small business owner in Aurora that works closely with students and the fourth is an artist.
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended the City Council approve the reappointments and appointments to the Aurora Public Art Commission.

WHEREAS, the City of Aurora has a population of more than 25,000 persons and is, therefore, a home rule unit under subsection (a) of Section 6 of Article VII of the Illinois Constitution of 1970; and
WHEREAS, subject to said Section, a home rule unit may exercise any power and perform any function pertaining to its government and affairs for the protection of the public health, safety, morals, and welfare; and
WHEREAS, the commission has expired terms and is in need of members; and
WHEREAS, it is the Mayor's desire that the candidates listed be reappointed and appointed to said board.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Aurora, Illinois, hereby approve the reappointments of Landa Midgley, Aurora, IL Jane Regnier, Aurora, IL John Stanicek, Aurora, IL Chris Hoban, Aurora, IL and Gail Piccolo, Aurora, IL and appointing Nafisa Husain, Aurora, IL Alexis Cardenas, Aurora, IL Melissa Mercado, North Aurora, IL and Julie Gervais to the Aurora Public Art Commission.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the terms of Landa Midgley shall expire November 30, 2018, Jane Regnier shall expire November 30, 2019 and John Stanicek, Chris Hoban and Gail Piccolo's terms shall expire November 30, 2017 and the terms of Nafisa Husain, Alexis Cardenas, Melissa Mercado and Julie Gervais shall expire November 30, 2019, however, in any event, they shall continue to serve until their respective replacements have been approved by the Council.
