FROM:                     Wendy McCambridge, City Clerk

DATE:                     February 25, 2019

SUBJECT:

Resolution Establishing the Maximum Number of City of Aurora Liquor Licenses by Class.

PURPOSE:

To maintain the number of Class C - Package Liquor for the total maximum number of Class C as 42.

BACKGROUND:

This request is presented in accordance with the 2011 amendment to the City's Liquor Ordinance, specifically Section 6-9(a), which charges the City Council with the authority to determine the number of licenses available in each classification.

DISCUSSION:

Nick & Mike Fresh Market, LLC dba El Palenque located at 363 N. Farnsworth, Aurora, Illinois, 60505 submitted a liquor license application regarding a Class C license for the purpose of selling to the general public alcoholic liquor in original packages only, for consumption off the premises where sold.

El Palenque currently has a Class C liquor license, but the current owner is selling the business to Nick & Mike Fresh Market, LLC.

Attached is the application submitted for your consideration. If approved, this resolution would increase the number of allowable liquor licenses as indicated in the accompanying Exhibit A to allow for the issuance of the license by the Commissioner. City staff has been working with the business owner to ensure that all requirements for a liquor license, as set forth in Chapter 6 of the City's Code of Ordinances, are met.

IMPACT STATEMENT:

The proposed resolution presents an opportunity to further the City of Aurora's economic development.

RECOMMENDATIONS:

I am recommending that this resolution be referred to the Government Operations Committee for consideration at its meeting to be held on March 12, 2019.
