A Resolution appointing Yanet Garcia and Laquita Haynes and reappointing Bill Powell to the Aurora Housing Authority Board.
DISCUSSION:
The Aurora Housing Authority Board is seven (7) member board tasked with providing oversight to the Aurora Housing Authority. Commissioners are recommended by the Mayor and approved by the Aurora City Council. There are currently two vacancies and an expired term on the board.
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the City Council approve the recommended appointments and reappointment to the Aurora Housing Authority Board.

WHEREAS, the City of Aurora has a population of more than 25,000 persons and is, therefore, a home rule unit under subsection (a) of Section 6 of Article VII of the Illinois Constitution of 1970; and
WHEREAS, subject to said Section, a home rule unit may exercise any power and perform any function pertaining to its government and affairs for the protection of the public health, safety, morals, and welfare; and
WHEREAS, there are currently two vacancies and one expired term on the Aurora Housing Authority Board; and
WHEREAS, it is the Mayor's desire that the recommended candidates be appointed and reappointed to said board.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Aurora, Illinois, hereby approve the appointments of Yanet Garcia, Aurora, IL and Laquita Haynes, Aurora IL and the reappointment of Bill Powell, Aurora, IL to the Aurora Housing Authority Board.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the term of Yanet Garcia shall expire September 30, 2019, the term of Laquita Haynes and shall expire September 30, 2017 and the term of Bill Powell shall expire on September 30, 2018, however, in any event, they shall continue to serve until their respective replacements have been approved by the Council.
