SUBJECT:title

A Traffic Study for the W. Indian Trail - Almond Drive intersection. Ward 5, Alderman Franco.

body

PURPOSE:

A Traffic Study for the W. Indian Trail - Almond Drive intersection to determine the warrants for a marked Pedestrian Crossing across E. Indian Trail from Almond Drive to the south to Oakleaf Court on the north.

BACKGROUND:

A Resident submitted ACR Case ID 25737 requesting a marked Pedestrian Crossing across . Indian Trail from Almond Drive to Oakleaf Court on the north.

DISCUSSION:

The intersection has a 2-way STOP: one on Oakleaf Court approaching from the north, and Almond Drive approaching from the south.   Indian Trail is five lanes wide: 2 lanes eastbound; 2 lanes westbound, and; one center lane for left-hand turns.  Almond Drive is a 29.5-ft wide Minor Collector, while Oakleaf Court is a 29.5-ft wide Residential.  Both northbound and southbound have Speed Limits of 25 mph.  Indian Trail has a Speed Limit of 35 mph.  The north side of Indian Trail has an asphalt Pedestrian/Bicycle path, while the south side has a standard sidewalk.  Both northbound and southbound roadways have standard sidewalks on either side.

None of the sidewalks have approaches or curb cuts for a crossing across Indian Trail, and the existing east-west crossings are not ADA compliant.  Installing a crossing would not only involve the standard signage and pavement markers, but would also require additional and updated sidewalk and curb work.

Staff would not recommend an additional uncontrolled pedestrian crossing across a high volume high speed 5 lane arterial.   If any additional improvements are to be considered it would be at Laurel Drive where an existing crossing exists.

IMPACT STATEMENT:

No impact based on recommendation

RECOMMENDATIONS:

 Staff recommends deniall
