SUBJECT:
A resolution authorizing a memorandum of understanding or MOU with the Kane County Sheriff's Department for the installation of communication equipment on the tower located at the Aurora Police Department 1200 E. Indian Trail.
PURPOSE:
The Kane County Sheriff's Department would like to install equipment at the Aurora Police Department site designed to improve coverage in this area by adding it as an additional receiver site for their communications system.
BACKGROUND:
The Sheriff's Department has receiver sites like this one spread throughout the county. This site would enhance coverage for both Aurora and the surrounding communities. The Aurora Police Department has a long history of collaboration with the Sheriff's Department.
DISCUSSION:
This project is not funded by the City of Aurora.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
Improving coverage for their system is in the best interest of everyone involved.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
I would ask the members of the Aurora City Council to authorize this memorandum of understanding with the Kane County Sheriff's Department.

WHEREAS, the City of Aurora has a population of more than 25,000 persons and is, therefore, a home rule unit under subsection (a) of Section 6 of Article VII of the Illinois Constitution of 1970; and
WHEREAS, subject to said Section, a home rule unit may exercise any power and perform any function pertaining to its government and affairs for the protection of the public health, safety, morals, and welfare; and
WHEREAS, The Aurora Police Department and the Kane County Sheriff's Department have worked together for the benefit of the City of Aurora; and
WHEREAS, this site will enhance coverage on the Sheriff's Radio System which will be a benefit for all parties involved.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Aurora, Illinois, as follows: Authorizes a Memorandum of Understanding or MOU with the Kane County Sheriff's Department for the installation of communication equipment on the tower located at the Aurora Police Department, 1200 E. Indian Trail.
