SUBJECT:title

The City of Lights Ukulele Society is requesting to stage the first City of Lights Ukulele Festival in downtown Aurora on Sunday, August 26, 2018 from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm.

PURPOSE:

A day of family fun and education celebrating all things ukulele.

 

BACKGROUND:

This is a first time event for this newly formed NFP group.  Their hope is to grow this into an annual event that is a draw not only in the Chicago area, but the Midwest in general. 

 

DISCUSSION:

The event will include two stages, food and merchandise vendors and classes. Attendance is estimated at 700.

Organizers are requesting the closure of Downer from Broadway to Stolp, use of Water Street Mall, Mundy Park (if available), Millennium Plaza, and the parking lots on Water Street from Benton to Downer and from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm.   

Requesting to have Ballydoyle serve beer and wine in the area on Water Street vacated by BP.  Organizers have been instructed to fence the area to create a secure and contained environment. 

No vehicles will be driven on Water Street Mall and a fee will be charged for any clean up necessary on the mall. 

All surrounding businesses will be notified by the Society.

A COI is being applied for and an EAP will be filed with Special Events.

Use of all properties listed above.   

Access to all available power on WSM and MP.

Street Department to deliver barricades to Broadway/Downer, Benton/Water, Downer/Stolp for street closure on Friday, August 24 and pick up on Monday, August 27. 

Trash bins from Special Events (to be billed back).

APD will determine the number of personnel needed and bill the organizers. 

 

 

RECOMMENDATIONS:

 I request this proposed event be forwarded to the Government Operations Committee for review and discussion.
