Appointment of the newly-appointed Alderman-at-Large to the Standing Committees of the City Council
PURPOSE:
To approve the Mayor's appointment of the Alderman-at-Large to the standing committees of the City Council.
BACKGROUND:
On May 14, 2019, the City Council revised Chapter 2, Article II, Division 5 of the Code of the City of Aurora (City Code) to establish five standing committees of the Council, each consisting of five aldermen. Section 2-123(a) provides that to the extent practicable, each alderman shall serve on two (2) standing committees. Section 2-123 further provides that the Mayor shall, with the advice and consent of the City Council appoint aldermen to the standing committees and designate members of each committee to serve as the committee's chairperson and vice chairperson.
DISCUSSION:
The Mayor's proposed appointment of the Alderman-at-Large to the standing committees as set forth in Attachment A herein are consistent with the requirements of Section 2-123 of the City Code described herein.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
The advice and consent of the City Council is required for confirmation of the Mayor's appointments.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
That the City Council approve the Mayor's appointments to the respective standing committees.

A Resolution Granting the Advice and Consent of the City Council to the Mayor's Appointment of Members of the Standing Committees of the City Council.

WHEREAS, the City of Aurora has a population of more than 25,000 persons and is, therefore, a home rule unit under subsection (a) of Section 6 of Article VII of the Illinois Constitution of 1970; and
WHEREAS, subject to said Section, a home rule unit may exercise any power and perform any function pertaining to its government and affairs for the protection of the public health, safety, morals, and welfare; and
WHEREAS, Section 2-123(b) of the Code of the City of Aurora (City Code) provides that the Mayor shall provide a complete set of appointments to the standing committees to the City Council for its advice and consent; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor has submitted his proposed appointments of the newly appointed Alderman-at-Large to the standing the committees; and
WHEREAS, said appointments comply with the requirements of Section 2-123 of the City Code; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor now requests the advice and consent of the Council with respect to said appointments.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Aurora, Illinois, as follows: that the City Council hereby gives its advice and consent to the Mayor's appointments of members of the standing committees of the City Council as set forth in Attachment A to this Resolution; and further
BE IT RESOLVED, that said appointments and designations shall become effective on May 28, 2025.
