An Ordinance Amending the Ward 6 Budget for Fiscal Year 2026.
PURPOSE:
To obtain the City Council's approval of a proposed amendment to the 2026 Ward 6 budget.
BACKGROUND:
This will cover Phase 1 preliminary engineering for the Safe Routes to Schools Project. Engineering is now at the state of needing to engage a consultant for some additional services. As originally agreed upon by the Aldermen and engineering, the Aldermen are responsible for the Phase 1 and Phase 2 engineering costs of the project within their ward.
DISCUSSION:
The budget amendment of $25,000 will be made from the Ward 6 Fund Balance. This amount will be placed into account 316-4060-431.38.18. The purchase order will be made out to the vendor.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
Participating in the Safe Routes to School Program will enhance student safety and community well-being around our local school. Improving walking and biking infrastructure will create safer, more accessible routes for students and families.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
That the City Council adopt the proposed ordinance that would affect the 2026 Ward 6 Budget.

An Ordinance Amending the Ward 6 Budget for Fiscal Year 2026.

WHEREAS, the City of Aurora has a population of more than 25,000 persons and is, therefore, a home rule unit under subsection (a) of Section 6 of Article VII of the Illinois Constitution of 1970; and
WHEREAS, subject to said Section, a home rule unit may exercise any power and perform any function pertaining to its government and affairs for the protection of the public health, safety, morals, and welfare; and
WHEREAS, the City Council approved Ordinance No. O99-96 on November 9, 1999, adopting the budget system of finance for the City in lieu of the appropriation system in accordance with 65 ILCS 5/8-2-9.1 et. Seq. and Code Section 2-312(a); and
WHEREAS, the City Council approved Ordinance No. O25-095 on December 9, 2025, adopting an annual budget for the City of Aurora for the fiscal year beginning January 1, 2026 and ending December 31, 2026, and
WHEREAS, adequate monies are available in the Ward 6 Fund Balance to pay said expenditures;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council of the City of Aurora, Illinois, as follows: An Ordinance Amending the Ward 6 Budget for the Fiscal Year 2026 by adding $25,000 to account 316-4060-431.38-18 is hereby approved.
